GOOD NEWS BAD NEWS
essay film, 2025
An unrequested anti-commercial for INTER-CITY, a new cultural area of 8000m2 in The Hague. This essay film uses an audio fragment from Marshall McLuhan’s interview with Mike McManus to explore how “good” and “bad” news are constructed within a shifting cultural landscape. Framed as an anti-commercial, it plays with the glossy language and suspense of promotion while quietly unsettling it. It invites viewers to reflect on how media shapes perception, blurring the line between information, promotion, and critique.
In collaboration with Steven van Lummel.
